Arie Vasquez is a Los Angeles-based artist primarily working in acrylics on canvas and paper. Their practice explores intersections of identity through contemporary narratives of intersectional feminism. Through their comics, bold color palettes, and imaginatively composed images, their paintings reflect personal experiences as well as more collective reflections of society. Questions of power, cultural norms, and gender dynamics are particularly of interest to Vasquez. Their works simultaneously provoke, embrace, and confront conventional definitions of comics, gender, identity, and expression.
